The Workers Cultural Palace is an important front for the construction of socialist spiritual civilization. It is a window on the work of trade unions, a way for the trade unions to contact the public, and also a method of safeguarding worker's benefits.
The palace was established in 1951 and is a nonprofit public institution subordinate to the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions. It is a center for holding political, cultural, educational, and recreational and entertainment activities for workers and staff in Haikou. Its predecessor, Haikou Workers Club, was established in South Boai Road in 1951. In 1952, the Haikou government vacated its office at Yongle Street to move to the palace. In 1958, the palace was officially opened. Since then, it has become an important center for publicizing political and cultural activities throughout the city and a center for cultural and recreational activities.
