Hainan Library is located in the Cultural Park in Guoxing Avenue, Haikou, with a good environment. Construction of the library started on December 13, 2003, and was completed on February 2, 2007. The library opened for service in October of that year. With a building area of 28,000 square meters it is the youngest provincial-level library in Hainan and an important public cultural facility.

The library has a reading area of 14,000 square meters. It houses more than 4.8 million books and documents, including over 1.23 million paper books, 3,000 kinds of newspapers, over 3,500 audiovisual documents, 3.7 million electronic books and 17,000 electronic journals. The library is equipped with more than 1,700 general reading seats and more than 190 computers for readers, and possesses a large number of digital documents and advanced network systems as well as modern service facilities.
