Among the five high-speed rail lines under development in Zhanjiang, two will directly connect the Guangdong city to Haikou in Hainan province, according to Zhanjiang's mayor Jiang Jianjun.
One is the Baotou-Haikou High-speed Rail with a total length of 2,300 km and a speed of 350 km/h. The route of the Zhanjiang-Haikou section starts at Zhanjiangxi Railway Station and ends at Haian Railway Station. This part is 130 km long with a design speed of 250 km/h.
The other is a sightseeing route from Zhangjiajie in Hunan province to Haikou. It will pass important node cities of Huaihua, the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Guilin, Wuzhou, Guigang, Zhanjiang and Haikou.
Jiang said that the two high-speed rails will provide strong transportation support for both Zhanjiang and Hainan after completion. A new ro-ro terminal and two highway renovation and extension projects to be put into service by October will further reduce the time required to cross the Qiongzhou Strait between the Luichow Peninsula of Guangdong province and Hainan province.
With a new high-speed railway station operational and the opening of Zhanjiang's first high-speed rail route on July 1, Zhanjiang had stepped into a new era with faster railway transportation.
On the same day, China Railway Guangzhou Group realized seamless transfer from Hainan to Guangdong with only one ticket encompassing transport modes of rail, road and waterway and including crossing of the Qiongzhou Strait, the first domestic use of that multi-mode system for passenger traffic.
