Hainan is making full use of its regional advantages by holding large-scale international sports events. Tour of Hainan, Round Hainan Regatta, and Hainan Open are now the three big events in the province that are driving industrial development.
Hainan had not hosted any big sports events before its first international cycling race, Tour of Hainan. This success in 2006 won the province a reputation for sports and the race has been held annually ever since. This year, 21 domestic and international teams will participate in the eight-day Country Garden Cup 13th Tour of Hainan, which will be held in Danzhou on Oct 23.

The Round Hainan Regatta has also become an event that attracts both national and global attention. The first race was held in 2010, gathering contestants from 15 countries and regions. While the organizing committee was initially worried about the berthing issues, nowadays more than 10 boat and yacht docks have been built.

This year, more than 120 contestants from 32 countries and regions gathered in Sanya for the Hainan Open European Challenge Tour from Oct 11 to 14. Audience members enjoyed the scenery of Hainan while watching the live competition. By holding promotional competitions at home and abroad, Hainan has expanded the popularity of its golf tourism resources.
