A photo exhibition opened at the Hainan Museum in Haikou on Oct 17 centered on the theme of the province's centenarians, aiming to share Hainan's longevity culture and healthcare resources with the whole society.

The photos showcased the stories of 20 centenarians across Hainan and divided the exhibit into six parts: an introduction, centenarians, living environment, behavioral habits, healthy diet and a postscript.

Wang Jun, the photographer who created the collection, is chairman of the Hainan Photographer Association. He has devoted himself to photographing and recording the stories of centenarians in Hainan since 1992. The 85 images and more than 12,000 words used in the exhibition were selected from his collection of over 120,000 pictures and 300,000 texts.

As of 2017, there were 1,565 centenarians living in Hainan. Their longevity subsidy has been improved from 150 yuan ($21.63) in 2006 to 500 yuan. The proportion of centenarians in the province is 17.13 out of every 100,000 people, which is far higher than the world average.
