International Theater Institute to celebrate 70th anniversary

The 70th anniversary celebration of the International Theater Institute (ITI) and the 1st Haikou Drama Week will be held in Haikou from Nov 22 to 27, according to a press conference organized on Nov 20.

The activity will focus on cultural heritage protection, artistic innovation promotion and integration in diversity. Over 290 artists from countries such as China, Switzerland, France and Russia will stage dramatic performances.

The agenda includes a celebration party, seminars, Chinese opera performances, domestic and foreign student drama performances and modern drama performances.

According to Tobias Biancone, the secretary-general of the institute, the celebration aims to build a bridge for performing arts exchanges among different countries, promote international cooperation, and accelerate artistic development.

The event was sponsored by the ITI, the China Theater Association, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Broadcasting, Television, and Sports of Hainan Province, and the Hainan Provincial People's Government. Organizers include Shanghai Theater Academy, Hainan University and the Hainan Theater Association. 

ITI is the largest performing arts organization in the world, established in 1948 by the UNESCO and experts in drama and dance.
