A delegation of 34 senior reporters and editors from Chinese-language media outlets in 19 countries gathered in Hainan on Oct 8 to cover the island province's achievements in its construction of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and Free Trade Port.

During the five-day event, the delegation will tour the cities of Haikou, Wenchang, Qionghai, Sanya, and Wanning.

Their itinerary for the first day included stops at the Haikou Citizen and Visitor Center, the Haikou Meishe River Fengxiang Wetland Park, and Jiangdong New District.

The Haikou Citizen and Visitor Center, which was put into operation in December last year, is a smart complex that integrates exhibition halls exploring the city's past, present, and future, as well as a citizen service center and the city's comprehensive management center.

At the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone (Port) Construction Briefing Conference held on the same day, the Hainan visa-free policy for 59 countries and its overseas talents introduction policy were detailed for the media delegation.

According to statistics released at the conference, more than 5,500 foreign talents have come to work in Hainan since April 13 of last year, with the number of foreign high-end talents and foreign professionals increasing by 17.3 percent.

Hainan is a young province with good climate and great potential. It is increasingly attractive to high-end overseas talents, said Hu Wenjuan, publisher of Japan-China Communications. Hu noted that Hainan's housing and social security policies have provided many advantages to overseas talents, which will be highlighted in her stories.
