By 2019, the route network of an international transit port has gradually taken shape at Yangpu Port in Hainan, with container routes launched there realizing full coverage of all major ports in Southeast Asian countries.
The news was released by Yangpu Economic Development Zone on Jan 7.
Since becoming a new node of the "New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor," Yangpu Port has launched new routes and made a denser route network to attract domestic and international container cargo sources.
In 2019, four domestic routes and four foreign trade routes were added at Yangpu Port, increasing the total number of domestic routes and international routes to 22.
Statistics show that Yangpu completed a container throughput of 708,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) in 2019, an increase of 27.13 percent year-on-year, of which 99,000 TEUs were foreign trade containers, up by 125.7 percent year-on-year.
In addition, the past year saw Yangpu Port achieve a total cargo throughput of 50.15 million tons, climbing by 19.25 percent compared with 2018, of which the foreign trade throughput hit 27.85 million tons, an increase of 13.98 percent.
In 2020, Yangpu will strive to meet the requirements of an international container hub port capable of handling 10 million TEUs annually and implement the second phase of the Yangpu Deepwater Channel project to meet the demands of mainstream international container vessels.
Yangpu will benchmark the free trade port policies, launching a series of major policy innovations, said Huang Peng, head of the transportation and ocean bureau of Yangpu Economic Development Zone. Huang added that the port is expected to see an annual throughput exceeding 60 million tons and 1 million TEUs.
