Hainan boasts the most concentrated, well-preserved, and largest tropical rain forest cluster in China. The island province is home to numerous unique animals and plants species and is an important area for the protection of tropical biodiversity in China.

Given that protection of the ecological environment is an important focus and a characteristic advantage for Hainan to build a free trade pilot zone and a free trade port with Chinese characteristics, the island province launched the Hainan Pilot Tropical Rainforest National Park system in 2019 in the central mountainous area of the province. The pilot zone covers a total planned area of more than 4,400 square kilometers, accounting for about one seventh of the land area of Hainan Island.
The construction of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park can not only protect tropical rainforest animal and plant resources, promote the scientific protection and rational use of tropical rainforest, but also create a beautiful ecological calling card for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.
