Sanya was selected as one of the national sports consumption pilot cities according to a notice issued by the General Administration of Sport of China on Aug 26.
There were 40 cities selected, which will receive support in terms of policies and resources.
The sports consumption pilot city project is being launched to promote the high-quality development of the sports industry and to relieve the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The whole project will last three years from 2020 to 2022. The General Administration of Sport of China will offer preferential policies and supporting resources, while the pilot cities will be expected to increase investment and improve their consumption environment to widely attract social forces to participate in the pilot work.
Sanya's selection as one of the pilot cities is an acknowledgement of the city's prior achievements, according to officials from the city's tourism, culture, radio, television and sports bureau.
In the future, Sanya will improve its working mechanisms, policies, and measures of sports consumption, as well as explore new ways for supplying sports products and services to establish a sports consumption pilot city compatible with Sanya's economic and social development.
Sanya will also seek to build a sports consumption market with a reasonable layout, complete functions, and distinctive characteristics, offering successful experiences and typical cases that can be learned from and spread to help the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
