Five guests to share experience at 3rd HIIFF master classes

As one of its events that provide attendees with intimate access to renowned guests, the 3rd Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) will offer five master classes where guest speakers will conduct online and offline discussions with several outstanding young directors and audience members, while also sharing their creative experience.

The five guests include Wang Xiaochuan and Wanma Caidan, two Chinese mainland directors and screenwriters, Majid Majidi, a Iranian director, Alice Rohrwacher, an Italian screenwriter and director, as well as Chinese mainland actress Hao Lei.

Wang is a Chinese independent film pioneer and internationally renowned film director. He has directed 13 feature films in more than 20 years. His works have been nominated for awards eight times at three major international film festivals, entering the main competition programs six times. His latest work So Long, My Son captured the Best Director Award at the 14th Asian Film Awards, as well as the Silver Bear for Best Actor and Best Actress at the 69th Berlin Film Festival.

Wanma is a film director, screenwriter, writer, and literary translator. His works have won dozens of domestic and foreign film awards, including the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice Film Festival in Italy, the Best Film Award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival, and the Best Director Debut at the China Golden Rooster Festival.

Majidi is an Iranian director, screenwriter, and producer. His films have been nominated for many important international film awards, such as the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, the Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear Award, and the Golden Lion Award of the Venice Film Festival.

Rohrwacher and Hao will conduct online chats with attendees. Rohrwacher is one of the most important female directors among the new generation of Italian filmmakers, while Hao a film, television, and stage actress that has also served as a judge at many international film festivals.
