Shen Xiaoming, Party chief of Hainan, described Hainan University as a participant, think tank, incubator, and reserve team in service of Hainan's reform and opening-up and its free trade port construction, during his visit to the university on May 19.
During the visit, Shen had a class with students, and visited the School of Marxism and the Law School. He stressed that HNU should cultivate students with the correct outlook on the world, life, and values.

Shen also visited a metabolic biology laboratory, a natural rubber collaborative innovation center and an intelligent marine equipment laboratory. He urged HNU to enhance its support of advantageous disciplines and scientific research teams, promote the development of inter-disciplinary integration, as well as improve the level of scientific research innovation.
After listening to a brief introduction of HNU's development situation over recent years, Shen accentuated that HNU should exert a positive role in decision-making consultation and talent training, as well as scientific research innovation for Hainan FTP construction.
He added that HNU should attach high importance to undergraduate education, cooperate with renowned universities in China in talent cultivation, and attract more students to settle in Hainan after their graduation.
