To promote its surf tourism and polish the city's image as a top surfing destination, the Hainan city of Wanning is calling on global designers to submit ideas for a new logo to embody the "surfing in Wanning" brand.
The selection will be divided into four stages - a preliminary selection, public display, review, and release. The top winners will be awarded the "Best Design Work" award and the "Excellent Candidate Work" award.
The former will be granted to the champion, with a reward of 80,000 yuan ($12,500), while the latter will go to two runners-up, with an award of 8,000 yuan each before tax.
Located in the southeast of Hainan Island, Wanning is a city boasting beautiful bays, small islands, an inland sea and a peninsula along its 109-kilometer coastline. It is a blue paradise with a wealth of marine tourism possibilities such as surfing, yachting, sea fishing and sailing.
Riyue Bay in Wanning is one of the world's top surfing areas, with high-quality wave patterns well-suited for surfing. The water quality here is clear, and the average annual sea temperature is about 26.5C, making it a top spot for surfing all year round.
The city has hosted several tournaments organized by the World Surf League and the International Surfing Association, attracting many well-known surfing clubs from home and abroad.
According to officials, the logo ought to be an original work and will have to show Wanning's characteristics as well as demonstrating its charm as one of the world's top three surfing destinations.
