Sanya's total number of yachts was 814 by June 30, with 144 newly registered yachts this year, a year-on-year increase of 220 percent and an increase of 114.9 percent over the same period in 2019, according to the Sanya maritime safety administration on July 14.
There were 63 imported yachts accounting for 43.8 percent of the total, 81 homemade yachts accounting for 56.2 percent of the total, and two "zero-tariff" yachts were newly registered among them.
Sanya has registered 74 second-hand yachts, which is a year-on-year increase of 146.7 percent. Sanya's attractiveness from other places was further enhanced with 42 transfer yachts registrations that totaled an increase of 223.1 percent compared with that in 2020.
In terms of financing for the yacht industry, there were 12 mortgage registrations for yachts this year involving 31.4 million yuan ($4.86 million) in capital, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent. A total of 719 people participated in yacht operator training and examinations, and 518 yacht driver's licenses were issued with an increase of 479.8 percent and 206.5 percent respectively over the same period in 2020.
In addition, there have been 634,000 passengers that rented yachts 101,000 times, which is an increase of 157.7 percent and 146.7 percent respectively over the same period in 2020.
