The city of Haikou has completed 26,000 COVID-19 nucleic acid tests on certain groups of people and 10,330 negative test results were released at 10 pm on Aug 5.
The city reported a positive test from a porter working at Haikou Meilan International Airport on Aug 5. The recent confirmed case was reported to have no connection with the previous case reported on Aug 1.
Twelve areas in Haikou have been confirmed as areas with exposure risks, including Yunlong town, Longtang town in Qiongshan district, Lingshan town in Meilan district, and the International Cargo Department of Haikou Meilan International Airport. Eighty-one environmental nucleic acid test samples were taken from these areas and all showed negative results.
Haikou will step up efforts to investigate people infected from the virus, find out their immediate and secondary contacts, and quarantine them accordingly.
On Aug 5, Haikou gathered a total of 200 medical workers from local hospitals to conduct nucleic acid tests for workers from Haikou Meilan International Airport.
The Hainan capital city has suspended all international cargo flights taking off and landing at Haikou Meilan International Airport while the airport's passenger flights are operating as usual.
Officials from the airport reminded that all passengers must wear masks while traveling, cooperate with staff members during pandemic prevention inspections at terminals, show their health codes and itinerary information, and take body temperature checks.
