A cargo plane operated by My Indo Airlines of Indonesia landed in Haikou Meilan International Airport on Aug 18, marking the resumption of international cargo airlines operations at the airport since Aug 5.

The Hainan capital city reported a positive COVID-19 nucleic acid test on Aug 5. The patient, surnamed Lin, 38, is a porter at Haikou Meilan International Airport. Subsequently, the airport shut down all international cargo airline operations.

As of now, Haikou has had no new confirmed cases or asymptomatic infections for 13 consecutive days.

The airport has strictly implemented COVID-19 prevention and control measures for international cargo shipping, and is arranging fixed operating personnel, equipment, resting areas, and concentrated work areas for staff. It has also carried out strict management of protective clothing, cargo porters, cargo and cargo cabin disinfection. The airport also established a monitoring center for international cargo airline operations.

Since the beginning of this year, Haikou Meilan International Airport has seen new cargo routes such as the first regular intercontinental cargo route of Hainan Free Trade Port - the Haikou-Paris and the first fifth freedom traffic right flight route in Hainan FTP – the Jakarta-Singapore-Haikou.

Before Aug 5, the airport operated a total of 10 international cargo routes, connecting Haikou with a record high of 11 cities and regions across the world.
