On Nov 9, a ship named "Xin Wen Zhou", traveling along China COSCO Shipping's Indian Ocean route, completed its maiden voyage and docked at the Yangpu International Container Terminal, marking the opening of a new intercontinental ocean route in Yangpu, Hainan province.
The opening of the route means that the ability of the Yangpu International Container Terminal to undertake regional ocean-going routes has been boosted, laying a foundation for the development of ocean-going international trunk lines and an increase in transportation capacity.
Since the opening of Hainan's first ocean route linking the new western land-sea corridor in December 2018, COSCO Shipping has opened five domestic trade routes, 10 foreign trade routes, and seven domestic and foreign trade routes in Yangpu.
Currently, the domestic trade routes in Yangpu cover most major ports in major domestic coastal areas, and foreign trade routes serve all ASEAN coastal countries and have extended to the South Pacific and Indian Ocean. A "dual-circulation" development pattern that takes Yangpu as a hub, connects domestic areas and runs through ASEAN, the South Pacific and the Indian Ocean has been developed.
The Yangpu International Container Terminal saw increases of 41 percent and 63 percent in its container volume and foreign trade volume, respectively, from January to October this year, as it continues to develop rapidly.
