"The orchids in our village are in high demand, and the supply is struggling to keep up," according to Wu Juncai, a member of the rural revitalization team in Da'an village, Baisha Li autonomous county, Hainan province.

Since 2019, the Da'an town government has been working to introduce orchid planting as a way to help villagers increase their incomes and boost rural revitalization.

Wu said that the base currently has 11 greenhouses containing 250,000 orchids. They are managed by a professional cooperative, and the village's rural revitalization team is responsible for providing supervision and guidance. According to the season, the base hires neighboring farmers to participate in daily maintenance and trains a group of skilled workers in the orchid industry to drive employment and increase farmers' income.

Baisha has steadily increased farmers' income by promoting high-quality industrial and agricultural development. It has been helping farmers start businesses on e-commerce platforms. As of the end of October 2021, the county's e-commerce platforms have sold over 67.4 million yuan ($10.6 million) in agricultural products, increasing the incomes of 26,172 farmers, said Chen Baizhan, director of the rural revitalization bureau of Baisha Li autonomous county.
