Haikou, capital of China's southern Hainan province, has reported eight cumulative asymptomatic carriers as of 1 pm on Sunday, according to the local government. On Saturday, the city reported four infections.
Starting at 6 pm on Saturday, the city launched week-long temporary control measures at indoor places for public gathering and entertainment. Large-scale meeting and offline training activities will be stopped temporarily as well.
Passengers need to show their health codes, travel records, body temperatures and present a negative nucleic acid test result from within the preceding 48 hours before they can go through boarding procedures and depart from the island starting Sunday.
The four infected reported on Saturday were workers at a construction site in the city. They arrived in Haikou from Guangdong province on June 30, by the same ship with persons who tested positive in Guangzhou on Friday.
