Ledong Li autonomous county is situated in the southwest of Hainan province, surrounded by mountains and sea, covering an area of 2765.5 square kilometers. Its sea area is 1726.8 sq m and the coastline is 84.3 km long, consisting of Longmu bay, Longteng bay and Longxi bay from the east to the west. The county's southwest is coastal plain, while the central, northern and southeastern parts are mountainous areas with 23 mountains that are 1,000 meters high. Its forest coverage is up to 62.95 percent.

The county has a total population of 549,600, among which 326,900 are Han people, about 210,200 are Li and Miao ethnic people. Ledong is Hainan's largest ethnic county with the highest population and the most developed culture.
It is best known for its largest base of cashew nut and an important crop breeding base in China. It is also a major vegetable and mango cultivation base in Hainan.
In 2022, the county's regional GDP reached 19.5 billion yuan ($2.8 billion), up 1.7 percent year-on-year.
