Hainan sent its third batch of fruits and vegetables from Wenchang to Hubei on Feb 5, to aid the central Chinese province in its fight against novel coronavirus pneumonia.
The trucks, loaded with 300 tons of fresh edamame, peppers, and watermelons as well as local specialty Wenchang chicken and 16 tons of pickled peppers donated by a Hainan food company, were shipped out by ferries first and then transported to Wuhan and Huanggang. It will take about 36 hours for the convoy to reach its destination and after completing the work, it will return on Feb 9.
To send the supplies to Hubei in time, Hainan food processing companies have overcome difficulties such as a lack of labor force and limited logistics resources. They have also maintained their food quality, strengthened food safety monitoring and accelerated packaging and loading procedures.
