Hainan, a tropical island in South China boasting a large expanse of volcano clusters, will build a world-class volcano culture resort in the future.
On April 18, the provincial capital Haikou unveiled its plan to build the Shishan Volcano Cluster National Geopark from the year 2019 to 2030.
According to the plan, the Haikou Shishan Volcano Cluster National Geopark will cover a total area of 107.8 square kilometers, spanning the three towns of Shishan, Yongxing, and Changliu in Haikou, and will become a world-class volcano cultural resort.
It will be built into a high-level geopark, becoming China's only tropical island volcanic cultural tourism destination, a world-class volcanic cultural tourism resort, and a pilot zone for showcasing China's geology, as well as spreading ecological science and education.
The recent construction project plan includes 46 projects, with an estimated investment of approximately 417 million yuan ($59 million), which will be raised through government investment, social investment, and open financing.
