The Hainan delegation to the National People's Congress (NPC) made a suggestion on May 23 at the third session of the 13th NPC on boosting the commercial aerospace market in Wenchang.
The deputies suggested that the relevant departments make full use of Hainan Wenchang International Aerospace City, which is located in the city of Wechang, so that it will become a driving force for further tapping into the commercial aerospace market.
As China's first coastal launch base with the lowest latitude position, the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center in Wenchang boasts excellent natural environment and features the least fuel consumption for satellite launches with the highest safety level. It is also one of the few low-latitude coastal launch sites in the world.
Based on the advantages of the satellite launch center, the city of Wenchang has been striving to boost the development of the aerospace industry.
The suggestion calls for relevant government departments to offer support to Hainan, including: exploring open and shared space launch sites as well as space monitor and control systems; establishing mechanisms for commercial space launch approvals; formulating monitor and control service specifications; relaxing the access of foreign-invested commercial aerospace entities and foreign companies to the R&D of the aerospace industry in China; as well as supporting the registration and operation of central enterprises in Hainan.
