South China's island province Hainan is slated to kick off its 21st Hainan Island Carnival on Nov 20, with a variety of cultural and sports activities, folk customs, as well as food expos to be staged.
This year's event will focus on promoting new forms of tourism, new tourism products, and new tourism routes. By integrating tourism with culture, increasing international standards, and attracting more participants, the event seeks to be a cultural communication platform with distinctive local cultural characteristics that garners full public participation and is open to the whole world.
A main venue will be set up in Haikou and five sub-venues will be established in Sanya, Danzhou, Qionghai, Wanning, and Lingshui. More than 170 theme activities will be staged covering cultural, tourism, and sports.
The festival will include 17 main events, including the carnival's opening ceremony, the 2020 Hainan World Leisure Tourism Expo, the 2020 Hainan International Tourism & Food Expo, the 2020 Hainan International Tourism Equipment Expo, a Hainan embroidery cultural week, a beach sports carnival, and the China-ASEAN University Student Culture Week.
