The cities and counties of Wanning, Qionghai, Haikou, Wenchang, Ding'an, and Changjiang, the main pineapple-growing areas in South China’s Hainan province, have started to harvest and ship the fruit to markets across the country.
About 250,000 mu (16,667 hectares) of pineapples are planted across the island province. The total annual output of 500,000 tons is worth more than 1.5 billion yuan ($230 million).
