The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced its third group of key laboratories on June 15. Sanya's island tourism resources laboratory working on data mining, monitoring and warning technology recommended by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, was included in the list.
The announcement
makes it Hainan's first laboratory to be recognized by the Ministry of Culture
and Tourism.
Using the resources of
Hainan Tropical Ocean University (HTOU), the laboratory is China's first key
island tourism laboratory, specializing in big data research and its innovative
application in island tourism.

Liao
Minsheng, vice president of HTOU and director of the laboratory, said that the
laboratory mainly focuses on the classification of island tourism resources, the
construction of an island tourism resources multimedia information database, and
the design of an island tourism resources visualization platform. It will
provide intellectual and data support for government, businesses and tourists.
Meanwhile, it will also provide advice on the sustainable development of islands
around the world.
The Ministry of
Culture and Tourism's "key laboratories" are an important means for the cultural
and tourism industry to gather and cultivate outstanding talents, organize
innovative research, and carry out academic exchanges. The Ministry carries out
assessment, selection and identification work every three
years.
